ENV 6504L. Unit Operation and Processes Laboratory
Purpose: This course is a unit operations laboratory course for unit operations common to drinking water, waste water, industrial waste, hazardous waste and other area of water treatment. Examples of specific unit operations investigated in the laboratory will include oxidation, sedimentation, adsorption, ion exchange, coagulation, softening, air-stripping, membrane processes and corrosion. The purpose of this course is to teach students how to conduct and interpret the results from bench and pilot scale studies for water treatment processes.

Evaluation: Bench and pilot scale testing will vary depending on available equipment and class interest. Typically a six bench or pilot scale experiments will be conducted and described in an engineering report. Students will be assigned an experiment and will have the responsibility of preparing and conducting specific laboratory experiments. All experiments will be coordinated through Dr. Norris. The actual data collection will be done by the entire class however the management of specific experiments will be the responsibility of a specific student as directed by the instructor. Typically, students will have the responsibility of managing one or two experiments. Students will be have to write their report individually. The grade will be determined by a weighted average as shown in the following Table.
